- 1 of 20 Junior High instructors (from over 500 applicants) to participate in two separate National Science Foundation Pilot Projects to promote creative, hands-on, science instruction. The first administered through SLU, the second through the University of MO-Rolla.
- Received a $500 cash award for creative science instruction from the IL Mathematics and Science Academy.
- Received the Children’s Empowerment Award from the Kid’s Day International Organization. Selection based on student recommendation. One of two teachers in Monroe County to receive the award for “Outstanding Service and Concern for the Young People in Southern Illinois”
- Selected to participate in a science instructors symposium sponsored by SIUE. Participants received training in technology-related science fields, developed new approaches to teaching traditional science, and were charged to disseminate these methods to other science teachers in the bi-state area.
